Lots of Alpaca Crias

Since the arrival of Elvina's boy, Avalon, on Sunday, we've had 4 more alpaca crias arrive.  All without help and normal presentations - long may it continue that way!!  No llama crias here yet, but one very speccy little boy born at Apu Royalla to Machu Picchu and by Morse.  He will be coming to live with us once he's weaned.

A dark brown male cria for Vynka (by Bracken) - Bonobo, born 16/11/15

Also born 16/11/15 was Buttercup, a true black female cria for Maggie (our first Ez cria), very happy with her :)

Elvina's boy (by Penzance), Avalon, gets cuter every day!!

Born the same day was MidSummer's medium brown daughter (by Bracken), Amaryllis.  MidSummer is very protective and extremely intolerant of other crias!!

Yesterday we welcomed a light brown boy for Sahara (by Kok), looks to have lots of lovely rosettes!

Jemma is in the home paddock now, for the final countdown, another Ez cria due 14/12/15

None too Patient Waiting!

I have several girls who are now overdue to give birth - ahhh.... the joys of (waiting overly for) spring crias!!

Sahara is 10 days overdue:

Vynka is not due till 21 November - plainly opting for the 'economy' size cria!!

And little first timer, Elvina, looking as tight as drum and a week overdue, bit excited about this one, it will be our first suri born at Mt Tanga:

New Bugs and Cria Updates

First the bad news - sadly we didn't get to choose a name for Medallion's cria because barely a day after she was born, she died, very sad :(

But the good news is that meantime Rapunzel and Voodoo are doing very well :)  Rapunzel is doing quite well with her lead and halter training, had her second 'turn' at a halter this afternoon, but she is very much a mummy's girl!  Here she is with mum Red Riding Hood (post brekkie nap time):

And Vynka caught mid-blink with Voodoo :)

Sevanah has come to stay for a while, to see if we can convince her that motherhood is a good thing, the biggest hurdle will be getting her to submit to a boy to achieve that... she's not best pleased!!  She is a very pretty girl, with a very people friendly disposition and we are pleased to have her company :)

Babies, babies, babies

Nothing makes time disappear like babies happening.  This morning started with Vynka (Lee) delivering - with quite a bit of help - a lovely medium brown female cria that we've named Voodoo Love.  Everyone is keen to meet the new cria, most of Phoebe who cannot wait to have one of her very own!!

She's up and dry now and seems to be doing well.

Next cab off the rank was Medallion, with a very undercooked white female cria that we'll name a little later.  I think she looks to be a blue eyed white, so may be deaf, wait and see.  You wouldn't give much for her now, but she's doing OK.  Medallion is very protective and has covered me in spit as I try to help the cria... she's a bloody ingrate!

Rapunzel is thriving and looking gorgeous... and she knows it!

Misty is always keen to check out what's going on... what's this camera thingey you have there??

Tiana Rose was due on Saturday, she would appear to have a transverse lie, hope it straightens up and pops soon, looks huge already!!

Cria updates, Christmas and Kiki!

After a brekky of muesli, its mostly time for everyone at the mothers club meeting to have a rest in the shade.  Sweet Pea is a ring-in, but she is very much enjoying the role of 'auntie'.

Bentley is growing up very nicely, getting bigger before our very eyes!!  He's doing well in his afternoon training sessions too, and has had a halter on twice now… doesn't like it so much, but its a start!  He's an absolute stunner!!

Taking a dust bath

The alpaca crias are also doing well, Tiana with T Rex

Vynka with Victor Hugo

Michelle with Bentley - Bentley is into 'tasting' everything, the fence, the food bowls… pretty much everything!!

Skinny enjoying the morning sunshine - its making fab patterns, from the Chrissy decs, on the wall!

Kiki is not keen on a small water bowl from which she can lap some water when she's thirsty… her favourite is a bowl that's big enough to stand in and bite some water!!  And then to finish off, wet footprints all through the house if she can get away with it!!

And Then There Were Three!!

Yesterday was the AAA Southern Region Christmas Lunch at the National Botanical Gardens in Canberra, having committed to going I was slightly worried that Tiana Rose would give birth in my absence and would need assistance.  I needn't have worried, she did give birth while I was away, but all went swimmingly seemingly.  She had a dark brown male cria, and we've called him T Rex!  The calendar says he's overdue by at least 18 days, but actually, he's slightly under cooked!!  He is a little low on his pasterns, but ears are fully upright, so not too badly premmie.

Aunty Vynka and Victor Hugo are pleased with the arrival of another playmate - good times ahead.

I knew that I'd missed the action when I came home to find the 'other' aunties all in the yards, instead of out in the
paddock, Pearl, MidSummer and Medallion:

The lovely Pearl, a serious favourite!

Medallion and MidSummer are half sister… obviously 'neck issues' run in the family!!  LOL!!

We had a lovely time at lunch, nice food and lively conversation, and afterwards we took a stroll through a small section of the gardens.

Eddy multi tasking - providing perspective AND carrying my camera bag!!
