Welcome to Rosie Francis' blog, a place to keep pace with the activities of a textile artist, long arm quilter, llama and alpaca farmer and self confessed duck nut living on the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia.

A Female Llama Cria at Last
Lla Traviata has done the right thing and come up with our first female llama cria for the season. She was a bit of a surprise because I didn't think Lla Trav was pregnant... but I've been proven wrong!! (Not the first time!!) We've decided to call her Aster :)

Llama Boy Season
Our third llama cria was born on December 23rd, Sweet Pea delivered a slightly undercooked male cria. He is a third son for Totem, and we've named him Cheetaro. Happily it was a normal delivery and he is doing very well, ear tips a bit floppy and down on his bumpers at birth, but that's already changing.

Why Sunday??
My last 2 'we need a vet' incidents have been on Sundays - yesterday's was Michelle's turn with a birthing problem. A trip to Crookwell Veterinary Hospital and it was quickly sorted, a healthy fully cooked male cria was the end result. Vet Rob Churchill's wife Jenny and her friend Sue decided he should be named Banksia and known as Banksy because of his artistically applied colour :) Pleased to say that Michelle is being a great mum as usual and everything is going well. A second son for Totem.
Sevanna is Blossoming
While Beth and Ste were here there were more hands to give out treats, this meant that animals that were a bit shy in coming forward had more opportunity to 'try out' hand feeding. One to benefit from this was Sevanna who took a real shine to Ste :) Of course Jade and Milly are always front row for treats!!

Youngest Puts the Star on the Tree
Sunday with Scarlett
Scarlett knows that when I pull out the camera, she needs to smile.. and then... she wants to see the picture on the back of the camera... and then to scroll through all the other pictures. Too clever for her own good!
Freya's solution to Ninja (the cat) and Scarlett wanting to undecorate the Christmas tree was to buy a twin palm tree Christmas tree... the cat was thwarted, but Scarlett just gets a chair and tries to achieve her goals!!

Lots of Alpaca Crias
Since the arrival of Elvina's boy, Avalon, on Sunday, we've had 4 more alpaca crias arrive. All without help and normal presentations - long may it continue that way!! No llama crias here yet, but one very speccy little boy born at Apu Royalla to Machu Picchu and by Morse. He will be coming to live with us once he's weaned.
Also born 16/11/15 was Buttercup, a true black female cria for Maggie (our first Ez cria), very happy with her :)
Elvina's boy (by Penzance), Avalon, gets cuter every day!!
A dark brown male cria for Vynka (by Bracken) - Bonobo, born 16/11/15

Born the same day was MidSummer's medium brown daughter (by Bracken), Amaryllis. MidSummer is very protective and extremely intolerant of other crias!!
Yesterday we welcomed a light brown boy for Sahara (by Kok), looks to have lots of lovely rosettes!
Jemma is in the home paddock now, for the final countdown, another Ez cria due 14/12/15

Sahara is 10 days overdue:
And little first timer, Elvina, looking as tight as drum and a week overdue, bit excited about this one, it will be our first suri born at Mt Tanga:
