I think he's about 2 1/2 weeks old, but its day 10 of my looking after him, and since his mother died.
Definitely growing, definitely more colour, but yeah, ok, not much prettier!! LOL!!
Welcome to Rosie Francis' blog, a place to keep pace with the activities of a textile artist, long arm quilter, llama and alpaca farmer and self confessed duck nut living on the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia.

Betty's Llamas
Called in to see Betty and to meet Cassanova. She has had 3 new crias arrive since my last visit - all very cute :) Unhappily Audrey - so named for her Audrey Hepburn eyes - became an orphan over Christmas when she was just 3 weeks old. Its quite difficult to photograph her now because she is very very forward and friendly and keeps poking her face in the camera!!
This is Achilles, recently castrated, and soon to join the geldings group.
Betty 'rounded up' the other llamas and brought them in so I could meet Cassanova, as you can see its not a conventional style of mustering!
These are some of the lovely girls.
And this is Cassanova, lovely quiet boy with very nice fleece.
This is Ginger, I have a real soft spot for her :)
And this is her cria Persephone, who is a lovely little character.
Getting her photo taken... a lot.... got quite tiring, so she rested between shoots in the dust bath.
Apparently a nice nap in the dust bath is very refreshing!!
Minto
I stayed with the lovely Shayne and Brad at Cambewarra, their dog Minto is a gas!! Brad has done a brilliant job of training her, and she is well behaved and well mannered.
We had lots of fun games, but I was too busy playing to take pics, her lastest trick is 'spin', great to watch, but difficult to capture, but we did have a little photo shoot indoors as well :) No photoshopping, all as taken ;-D

Fitzroy Falls
Called in to see Fitzroy Falls on my way down to the coast, very pretty, and just a teeny bit challenging for those who are scared of heights... ie me!!

Full Double Rainbow
Yesterday evening we had a full double rainbow at Wedgewood... well OK, in the sky near us... and plainly I didnt have a sufficiently wide angle lens to capture the pic in one shot, but here's two to show how amazing it was :)

Sparky
Sparky can have a name now, he's still with us!! I looked at the photos taken on Sunday and you wouldnt have given much for him, covered in food, I should have cleaned him up BEFORE the photo, not after!! LOL!!
But today he's looking much better, well to my eyes anyway ;-D
The Dam Lamb
The lamb that got stuck in the mud at the shallow dam yesterday is still with us this morning, she does not seem able to stand well, but is moving forward, sitting, and eating.... not sure how she's going to get a drink of water ..... but time will tell.

Rescues so far... today
The morning began well, I found the baby budgie that I am hand raising because its mother died is still alive this morning - his sibling died yesterday, but I was not hopeful from the start that he would make it. The larger, and now lone baby, is just starting to get feathers and has its eyes open. The only thing to hand was chick starter crumble, so ground that up added water and that's working.... so far. 'Proper' stuff coming today I hope!!!
NO PICS yet because my camera cable is loose, and I cant get camera and computer to talk to each other.
But then.... Presley (Elvis' son) decided to try out his newly acquired flying skills, flies well, navigation skills - must try harder. He ended up on the wrong side of the fence, and could not do the vertical take off to clear 2m high fence! So up to the house, tie up the dogs, grab a pair of scissors, get bike and ride round to get him. Chase, catch - CLIP WING FEATHERS, send back over the fence. Now he does not so much fly as plummet, but let that be a lesson for him!!
OK, back to the house, everything has been fed and watered now... so its 2 hours since I last fed the baby budgie - do that again, get covered in baby food!! Very lively active baby, food everywhere.
Next I decided to take the dogs out for whirl on the bike, check a few sheep and then I thought I'd be able to have my coffee and brekky in peace, tired dogs sleeping at the door.
Started with the road paddock, and hardly in the gate before I see that there is a lamb stuck in the mud in the shallow dam. Bugger!! Tie dogs to bike, wade into the mud, pull lamb out and then lift/carry/drag it to the top of the dam wall. The lamb and I have a lot of mud on us!! Spend some time scraping as much as possible off!! Now I'm back at the house and cleaned up, and I have 20 minutes to re-heat my coffee, make toast before its time to feed that budgie again!! Wish me luck..........
Pics tomorrow I hope :)

Crystal has new ducklings
Crystal has 2 new ducklings, one blue dusky (front) and one blue fawn (back). They are lovely but she is the most aggressively defensive mumma duck I've ever met, and I have lots of bruises to prove it!! LOL!!
It was very hot yesterday, but I wasnt allowed to photograph Crystal on her nest without EVERY other duck coming to see what was going on!! LOL!!

Emperor Gum Moth
This guy nearly scared me to death today.. well close... ish!! LOL!! Went to pull up the side of a feed sack and my fingers met something soft and 'squishy'!! Moved him to the great outdoors, hope he approves, quite an impressive specimen.
Hazel Duck and Mia Duck
My granddaughter Hazel and her little friend Mia have namesakes here at the Duck Hilton, here they are enjoying a mid morning nap in the dappled shade.

Fledgling Swallows
We've had a nest of 4 swallows fledge this week, and this little nest of another 4 is just about ready to go too :)
Fatty and Skinny in the heat
No matter that the weather is getting very warm, best place to rest is on top of the hot water service, just ask Fatty!!
Later, Belle watches from the door as Fatty makes himself comfortable on a lap!! Any lap is a good one... hey Fatty!! LOL!!
Skinny waits out the heat on a mohair rug... as you do!!
