Christmas Day Ducklings and Boxing Day Feast

Alan and his dog Jerry came to visit for Christmas, unfortunately Jerry (French Bulldog) was not keen on sharing space with Kiki and/or the cats!!

Dan and Freya came for lunch on Boxing Day, so we had a Christmas Feast, Take 2!!!  Scallops cooked on the bbq, 2 types of prawns (tiger and crystal), Moreton Bay Bugs, potato salad and all washed down with some nice cold Veuve :)  Delicious!!

Shake-me-up-Judy's ducklings hatched on Christmas Day.  I  took her and the ducklings that were out to a new safe mumma pen and put the other eggs in the incubator.  Next day I handed her the 4 that hatched overnight which she readily accepted into the brood.  These are Ancona (Bantam) x Call ducklings for the pied program :)

More ducklings hatched yesterday evening, and overnight in the incubator - 4 in all - and I was wondering where on earth I was going to put them, since I already have 3 brooders running!!   And they are all full!!  When Shake-Me-Up-Judy came out of the nest box for brekky this morning with ducklings in tow!  YAY!! Problem sorted.  Quickly set up a mummy pen for her, rescued the ducklings, gathered up all the unhatched eggs, moved Judy, added my incubator ducklings and sat back and waited to see if she'd take them.  She did, bless her.  I have one baby drying off in the incubator, it was just hatching when I moved them, and lots and lots of eggs, bit worried that some of them may be later additions from the other duck that was in the pen, so there may be a delayed and rolling hatch happening!!

Chickens, Ducklings and MAKE IT RAIN!!!

The incubator has been popping!  Luckily I have a mother duck to take all the ducklings, but I am rearing some silkie chicks as there are far more than Tinkerbell can look after!!

Shake Me Up Judy is a good little mum, she kicked Saffie off her nest, so these are really Saffie's babies even though Judy hatched them!!
